Introducing Give Yourself Permission
The story behind a philosophy of living with greater intention, self-awareness and room to be yourself.
For years, I’ve been writing about permission—the permission to live fully, to make choices that align with who you truly are, and to step outside of the expectations that may no longer fit. Give Yourself Permission isn’t just a phrase; it’s a philosophy I’ve lived by and shared through my books and coaching.
I was born to an American mother and an Indian father. We lived in London but spent most of our vacations in Los Angeles. I never had a clear idea of what I wanted to be when I grew up. Then I discovered acting, and for the first time, I felt free. I could become someone else, experiment, and step into different roles without the weight of my own identity.
But life had other plans. A chronic neurological illness changed everything, shifting my perspective on what truly mattered. I learned that healing required more than just medical treatment—it meant fiercely protecting my mind, spirit, and environment.
Whilst I love working with my clients and speaking in front of large audiences, I’ve always been someone who craves quiet over chaos, meaningful conversations over small talk, solitude over crowds. Although many would think I am an extrovert (one who derives their energy from others), I feel that I am an introvert (one who derives their energy from being alone). Over time, I’ve come to embrace this and the older I get, the more I realize how much constant busyness and external noise can pull me away from myself. Writing helps me come back to center.
And that’s why I’m here—to share my personal and professional thoughts, reflections, and experiences, in the hope that they help you find space for your own self-awareness. Every Thursday, I’ll post something new. Some posts will be written, some might include audio, but all of them will be honest and intentional.
I hope this space gives you permission to pause, reflect, and reconnect with yourself. Let’s begin.
